Third Test, St Kitts, day four (close): West Indies 581 and 113-4 v India 362 Lara congratulates Taylor for taking two wickets in one over |
West Indies led India by 332 runs at the close of the fourth day of the third Test on Sunday after reaching 113-4 in their second innings.
Earlier, pace bowlers Jerome Taylor and Corey Collymore shared six wickets to help dismiss India for 362 in reply to the hosts' first innings score of 581.
But Windies captain Brian Lara decided against enforcing the follow-on.
VVS Laxman scored exactly 100 but was out in the same over in which he completed his century.
The last thing India had wanted as they tried to ward off the follow-on was a poor start but Rahul Dravid was dismissed lbw by Taylor's inswinger for 22 with just seven runs added to their overnight score of 150-2.
Worse was to come for the tourists when a fired-up Taylor removed Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif for ducks within the space of three balls.
Yuvraj edged a fine delivery that left him, while Kaif was lbw after moving in front of his stumps.
India's woes were compounded when Mahendra Dhoni (29) was sent back to the pavilion, lbw to Corey Collymore, attempting a flick to midwicket.
But from the wreckage of 220-6, Laxman, Anil Kumble (43) and Harbhajan Singh (38 not out) embarked on a vital salvage operation.
When the innings finally ended, Lara decided his bowlers were too tired for him to enforce the follow-on.
Kumble and Sri Sreesanth then took two wickets each before the close.
