Second Test, Bogra, day three (stumps): Bangladesh 234 & 201 v Sri Lanka 316 & 77-0 | There is no competition between me and Shane Warne |
Muttiah Muralitharan joined Shane Warne in taking 600 Test wickets as Sri Lanka moved to the brink of a 2-0 series triumph over Bangladesh in Bogra. The tourists were 77-0 at stumps on day three, needing 43 more for victory after bowling the hosts out for 201.
Pacemen Lasith Malinga and Dilhara Fernando took three wickets each while spinners Muralitharan and Malinga Bandara weighed in with two apiece.
Sri Lanka's first innings ended earlier for 316 with Upul Tharanga making 165.
Only 14 were added to the overnight 302-8 as Shahadat Hossain dismissed him and Malinga to finish with his first five-wicket haul in Tests,
But the hosts were soon struggling as their top order folded rapidly.
Nafees Iqbal was troubled by a short Malinga delivery and was caught behind for two, while Javed Omar (13) edged a ball from Dilhara Fernando down the leg-side to wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara.

Muralitharan, playing in his 101st Test, moved to the brink of the 600 club when Shahriar Nafees cross-batted the off-spinner to Farveez Maharoof at mid-on.
And the 33-year-old's big moment came when Mashud was caught by Malinga at square-leg for six.
He is now the only bowler to claim fifty wickets against each of the Test-playing nations.
In between, Bandara had Mohammad Ashraful caught at slip by Mahela Jawayardene and Mushfiqur Rahim caught behind in the seventh over after lunch to leave the Tigers reeling.
Bashar bravely defied the tourists for 104 balls to make 73 and put on 52 with Mohammad Rafique, but the skipper was trapped leg before by Malinga shortly before the break with a full delivery that might have been missing leg-stump.
Fernando then bowled Hossain with a slower ball the tail-ender played across and Enamul Haque edged behind with a leaden-footed drive.
It was all over when Rafique, who hit three sixes in his 78-ball 64 miscued another big hit to a deepish mid-off where that man Muralitharan held on to give Malinga his 50th Test wicket.
Tharanga went after the bowling right from the off in a bid to finish the game inside three days, hitting three fours in as many balls in Hossain's fourth over.
He finished the day on 48 and Michael Vandort made a more circumspect 22 to leave the tourists with a simple task on the fourth morning to condemn Bangladesh to a 37th defeat in 42 Tests.
