Marcus Trescothick marked his England comeback with a Lord's century and said the break had made him hungry to do well for his country in Tests. The Somerset man missed the India tour after being a victim of player burn-out but roared back with 106 as England dominated Sri Lanka, making 318-3.
He said: "I watched the guys on TV (in India). It really makes you hungry to come back and play well again.
"I love international cricket and to do well at Lord's makes me really happy."
Trescothick did admit to a slight sense of regret that having seen out an awkward morning session he had not scored even more runs.
"I've come out with a hundred but I would have like to have batted a bit longer," he said after reflecting on his dismissal to a slip catch off Muttiah Muralitharan soon after tea.
But he was pleased all his preparatory work for Lord's had paid off.
"I've worked hard, I've been practising well with Somerset back at home, started the season well in county cricket and it's nice to get on wickets that you can really trust and make the most of.
"It swung and seamed a little bit more than we expected it to this morning.
"But it seems to have quietened down a little bit and after lunch the sun had been baking it a little bit and it got better - you could play a few shots on it.
"If it had been cloudy today we would have probably had a bowl, but with the overhead conditions it was always going to be a bat-first wicket.
"We need to have another good day tomorrow and that'll really set up the game for us."
