First Test, Chittagong, day two (stumps):
Bangladesh 319 v Sri Lanka 313-6
Rafique took two wickets on the second afternoon |
Sri Lanka overcame a mid-inning stumble to set their sights on a first innings lead over Bangladesh on day two of the first Test in Chittagong. Replying to Bangladesh's 319, the tourists were 178-5 in mid-afternoon after spinners Mohammad Rafique and Enamul Haque took two wickets each.
But Farveez Maharoof (72) and Thilan Samaraweera put on 118 together for the sixth wicket.
Samaraweera was 57 not out at stumps with his side six behind on 313-6.
But Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene was far from impressed with his side's batting effort, saying: "I am not happy at all. Our star batsmen failed to play big innings."
They endured a tough start as opener Michael Vandort chased an outswinger from left-arm seamer Syed Rasel to be caught behind in the very first over.
Upul Tharanga played positively in his 42 and Kumar Sangakkara hit nine fours in his 69 but both fell to slow bowlers
Sangakkara was caught by Mohammad Ashraful off Haque, who also trapped Tillakaratne Dilshan on 22.
They were followed by Jayawardene, caught off Rafique for 30.
Maharoof recorded his maiden Test half-century, and smashed the part-time spin of Ashraful for six, before playing on to pace bowler Shahadat Hossain.
Bangladesh added just four more runs in the morning after resuming on 315-9.
Paceman Lasith Malinga removed Shahadat Hossain to finish as the most successful bowler with 4-57.
