Lara will be 37 by the time of the World Cup in the Caribbean |
Brian Lara may have played his last Test against Australia following a decision to postpone their 2007 series in the Caribbean to avoid congestion. The series was to have begun after the World Cup final on 28 April, when Test cricket's highest scorer will be 37.
A West Indies Cricket Board spokesman told BBC Sport: "It's World Cup year. We are making plans to reschedule."
Lara has reportedly been left out of the one-day squad to face New Zealand, to prolong his Test career.
Lara broke Allan Border's record of 11,174 Test runs with an innings of 226 in Adelaide in November, although defeat there saw his side concede the series 3-0.
He is unlikely to still be part of the side when Australia finally visit, at a date yet to be determined.
They are scheduled to tour Pakistan early in 2008 and host West Indies before an Ashes series in England the following year.
Australia's players are likely to welcome the extra rest, after a busy five months including the ICC Champions Trophy, the Ashes at home and the World Cup.
And their workloads are likely to increase with an annual October trip to India likely from 2007.
