Sri Lanka endured a difficult start to their tour on the first day's play against an Indian Board President's XI. Robin Uthappa hit a breezy 76 and left-hander Shikhar Dhawan a patient 65 in an opening stand of 133 to guide the hosts to 217-2 at stumps in Bangalore.
Chaminda Vaas, leading the side with Marvan Atapattu rested, chose to bowl first on winning the toss in damp conditions after Saturday's washout.
Vaas did not take a wicket, although he conceded only 22 runs in his 10 overs.
Uthappa, 20, hit nine fours and lofted new left-arm slow bowler Sajeewa Weerakoon for two sixes, before he was bowled by leg-spinner Malinga Bandara.
Weerakoon then had the 19-year-old Dhawan caught at midwicket by Bandara, ending a stay of almost three hours.
Star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan was also rested for Sri Lanka's only warm-up game before the three-Test series starts in Chennai (Madras) next Friday.
