South Africa have called up three spin bowlers for the one-day series in India later this month. Robin Peterson and Justin Ontong have been recalled to the squad, along with uncapped Johan Botha.
"The conditions in India suit spin bowlers and the time has arrived for us to back them to do the job," said chief selector Haroon Lorgat.
Botha, who recently toured Sri Lanka with the South Africa A team, has passed a fitness test on a hand injury.
The 23-year-old has taken 73 first-class wickets and also averages 31 with the bat.
He has the chance to impress on his first senior tour, while Peterson and Ontong have something to prove after respectively playing 21 and 18 one-day games for South Africa without establishing a regular place.
The trio's selection gives skipper Graeme Smith and coachMicky Arthur plenty of options in the absence of Nicky Boje.
The slow left-armer and batsman Herschelle Gibbs were not considered for selection after Indian police refused to give a guarantee that they would not be arrested if they made the trip.
The pair are still wanted for questioning about a match-fixing inquiry dating back to 2000 which put an end to the career of former captain Hansie Cronje.
South Africa will play a warm-up game in Hyderabad on 14 November before beginning the series against India two days later.
South Africa squad: G Smith (capt), J Kallis, J Botha, M Boucher (wkt), AB de Villiers, A Hall, J Kemp, CLangeveldt, A Morkel, A Nel, M Ntini, J Ontong, R Peterson, S Pollock, A Prince.
