Boon helped England out-play Australia in the Ashes series |
England video analyst Tim Boon has been recruited to help the World XI try and beat Australia in the forthcoming ICC Super Series. Boon was a key member of coach Duncan Fletcher's backroom team as England won the Ashes back from Australia.
And World XI coach John Wright believes Boon's knowledge of Australia's players will be invaluable to him.
"Tim should be able to give us a line on what they did - and then it's up to our side to perform," said Wright.
The Super Series features three one-day games in Melbourne on 5, 6 and 9 October, followed by a six-day Test in Sydney which starts on the 14th.
Australia plan to prove they are still the game's dominant side, but have shaken up their squads with Jason Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz dropped from both and Damien Martyn left out of the Test side.
"They have so much to play for and won't want to give their selectors the opportunity to make any more changes to the side.
"Before their home crowds we expect nothing less than a real fight on our hands," said Wright, who was India's coach before stepping down earlier this year.
Martyn, meanwhile, fears his Test career may be over.
Martyn's name was missing from Australia's Super Series Test squad |
He averaged only 19.77 during the five-match Ashes series and told The Australian newspaper he will need "something extra special" to force his way back into the team.
"It hurts in the sense that I've been playing Test cricket in the last four or five years where I've done it all, particularly in the last 18 months.
"I was averaging almost a century every second Test, so this has been my first hiccup in that period - and because it's such a long series, it stands out more. If it was a three-Test series, there would be no problem," said Martyn, who will be 34 next month.
He has been replaced in the squad by all-rounder Shane Watson, and thinks extra bowling options are needed after years of relying on a four-man attack in Tests.
"We just don't have the attack we used to. Punter (captain Ricky Ponting) might need some help with someone who can bowl and bat at six," he added.
