The ICC World XI crashed to another defeat at Melbourne's Telstra Dome as Australia cruised to a 3-0 win in the World Series one-day tournament.

The World XI could have had Ponting run out on the same score, but Jacques Kallis - having a dire series - missed a good opportunity to hit the stumps.

And on 41, Ponting was dropped by Andrew Flintoff off his own bowling.

The ball ricocheted into Flintoff's left wrist and he did no further bowling, though he was able to bat.

Ponting was finally out for 68 and his dismissal triggered two more as the World XI hit back through spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Daniel Vettori.

Eventually, they had to be replaced however, and Hussey and Watson piled into the other bowlers, hitting 75 and 66 respectively.

Neither man was dismissed in a partnership worth 155.

The World XI's reply never really started.

Chris Gayle was bowled second ball by Lee, who was on a hat-trick when Kallis and Lara were dismissed by two fearsome deliveries.

Flintoff and Sehwag managed a bright partnership of 60 but once the England man had been bowled by Watson - who finished with 4-39 - it was only a matter of time before the defeat came.

In a series of wild swings, the remaining batsmen were swiftly dismissed - the agony was all over in the 28th over.
