Hoggard boost for England
Matthew Hoggard
Hoggard has had a scan on his right knee
England paceman Matthew Hoggard is set to be fit for the opening match of the four-Test series against the West Indies after an injury scare.

Hoggard damaged his right knee playing for Yorkshire but a scan has revealed no cartilage damage.

He is set to play for the MCC against West Indies on 13 July, along with Simon Jones, who missed most of the New Zealand series with injury.

The first Test against West Indies starts on 22 July at Lord's.

Hoggard underwent an MRI scan on Monday as a precautionary measure because it was the same knee he injured last year.

ECB chief medical officer Dr Peter Gregory said: "The scan revealed no damage to Matthew's cartilage and he will continue to undergo treatment from the Yorkshire physiotherapist over the next few days."

A foot injury ruled Jones out of the final two Tests against New Zealand and he was ordered to rest because he had suffered a stress fracture before.

An ECB spokesman told the BBC: "Jones will be netting this week and play some second XI cricket for Glamorgan.

"If there is no reaction, he will play for the MCC."

Also set to play in the three-day game at Arundel are Graham Thorpe and Mark Butcher, who have not been part of England's one-day set-up.
