Dilhara Fernando (left) has been beset by injuries in his career |
Sri Lanka have dropped paceman Lasith Malinga for the triangular one-day series starting in Pakistan. Malinga is the only absentee from the squad of 14 who played in the ICC Champions Trophy in England and failed to qualify from the group stage.
Added to that party are left-arm spinner Rangana Herath and the left-handed batsman Thilina Kandamby, who has just three international caps.
Star off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan misses the tour with injury.
Murali is unlikely to play again this year as he recovers from shoulder surgery and is instead travelling to Canada to raise funds for charity.
The selectors decided to go for the experienced Dilhara Fernando instead of Malinga as their third seam bowler, with Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa likely to share the new ball in most of the matches.
Sri Lanka resumed training on Monday in Colombo after returning from England and leave for Pakistan on Sunday.
The tournament starts on 30 September when Pakistan take on Zimbabwe at Multan.
