 | Hussey has skippered Australia A |
Uncapped batsman Mike Hussey has been called into Australia's VB Series squad to replace injured Michael Bevan. The 28-year-old could make his debut against India on Sunday, having previously captained Australia A.
"He has been knocking on the door for some time and we believe he deserved this opportunity," said chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns.
Bevan will miss the rest of the VB series after suffering a cracked rib and could be out for up to six weeks.
Although normally an opener in first-class cricket, Hussey would have to settle for occupying Bevan's middle order role with Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist established at the top of the order.

But he has done so successfully for Western Australia this season, scoring 326 runs in five one-day games, including a century against New South Wales.
"I guess they sort of wanted a like for like player," said Hussey who had three successful seasons in English county cricket with Northamptonshire.
He has scored 326 runs in five one-day innings this season at an average of 81.50, including a 91-ball century against New South Wales.
"His form as one of the ING Cup's leading run-scorers this summer has been excellent and it is clear he has played a big part in the Warriors' strong limited-over performances to date," said Hohns.
Simon Katich has also been called into the squad for Sunday's game to enable skipper Ricky Ponting to take a break before the best of three final, which starts on 6 February.
