Tough start for Saltires

Holland gave a good account of themselves at the World Cup
Scotland face a tough opening match against Holland at the ICC Six Nations Challenge tournament in Dubai.

They will meet on 29 February, with the Scots then facing Namibia, the United Arab Emirates and Canada before their last game against the USA on 6 March.

The winners of the competition will earn a place in the ICC Champions Trophy in England in September.

Scotland have already strengthened their squad by recruiting Dougie Brown and Gavin Hamilton from county cricket.

It's great to see Gavin and Dougie back in Scotland colours - their ability and experience can only assist us in our desire to win this competition
Captain Craig Wright

The only significant absentee is wicket-keeper Colin Smith, who has been unable to get time off from police training. He has been replaced by Carlton's Jamie Kerr.

"I honestly believe that the team travelling out there has the all round capabilities to compete and win in Dubai," coach Tony Judd commented.

"The side is heavily orientated to the conditions we expect to face over there and hence the inclusion of three spinners. It now really gets down to delivering our best form when it counts the most."

Scotland last met their five opponents at the 2001 ICC Trophy when they beat Canada, the UAE and USA in the round robin phase, but lost to Namibia and the Dutch, who were the eventual winners.

They were then beaten by Canada in the third-place play-off game, which cost them a place at the 2003 World Cup.

Scotland squad: Craig Wright (capt), Ryan Watson, Douglas Lockhart, Greg Williamson, Dougie Brown, Gavin Hamilton, Jamie Kerr, Fraser Watts, James Brinkley, John Blain, Majid Haq, Gregor Maiden, Ian Stanger, Paul Hoffmann.
