SA grind down Windies
Third Test, Cape Town, day four:
South Africa 532 & 335-3 (close); West Indies 427

Jacques Kallis
Kallis has made a hundred in each Test of the series

Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis helped themselves to centuries as South Africa dominated West Indies on day four of the third Test in Cape Town.

The home side reached 335-3, a lead of 440, despite only 14 overs of play being possible during the afternoon because of rain.

Kallis reached 130 not out at the close, his third century of the series, with Gary Kirsten on 10.

Gibbs made 142, including four sixes, before he was caught on the boundary.

He shared a third wicket partnership of 251 with Kallis and said: "It's always good batting with Jacques - he's a rock."

It was a hapless performance by West Indies, who dropped four catches in the final session of play and are facing the prospect of going 3-0 down in the series.

They had enjoyed early success when Fidel Edwards bowled Graeme Smith for 24 and Jacques Rudolph followed his first innings century with a duck.

Resuming on 38-0, South Africa had added only added 10 to their total when Smith misjudged an inswinging delivery from paceman Edwards and was bowled offering no stroke.

Rudolph followed fora duck in the next over when he wafted at a wide ball from Vasbert Drakes and edged to wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs.

Kallis had been forced to retire hurt on the first day of the game after being hit on the arm, although he returned to make 76 in their first innings total of 532.

West Indies were quick to test him out again with a few short balls and he was lucky to pick up six off the top edge as he attempted an ungainly looking pull off Drakes.

The total mounted to 188-2 before the weather forced the players from the field, but play began after tea with West Indies carrying little or no threat with the ball.

Gibbs brought up his hundred off 200 balls and celebrated with a flurry of big-hitting.

He was dropped by Chris Gayle at cover off Edwards on 123, but the same fielder hung onto a chance on the deep mid-wicket boundary to give Ramnaresh Sarwan a wicket.

Kallis brought up his century with a dab to third man for three but was then dropped on 102 and 116, the second an embarrassing miss by Edwards who fumbled the ball over the rope for six.

The day ended on another low note for West Indies as Kirsten hoisted a chance into the leg-side where substitute fielder Merv Dillon got both hands to the ball as he ran in only to let it slip from his grasp.
