Indian cricket boss Jagmohan Dalmiya eagerly awaits the tour |
India have confirmed the breakdown of their historic cricket tour to Pakistan which will begin in March and continue until mid-April. Jagmohan Dalmiya, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, said: "We will play three Tests and five one-day internaionals.
The tour will be the first by an Indian national team to neighbouring Pakistan in 13 years.
Dalmiya added: "Details of the dates are being worked out."
India recently announced its willingness to resume sporting ties with Pakistan as part of efforts to ease tensions between the south Asian cousins.
India have not played a Test match in Pakistan since the 1989-90 season, after New Delhi accused Islamabad of backing cross-border terrorism in the disputed Kashmir region.
Pakistan toured India as recently as 1999 for three Tests and the two teams have continued to face off on neutral soil.
Sunday's announcement by Dalmiya appeared to quell the faint fears relating to security that had been expressed by India's players.
The tour was officially approved last November.
Also on Sunday, the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers held their first direct talks for more than two years at a summit in Islamabad.
