Second Test, Adelaide, day four
India 523 & 37-0; Australia 556 & 196 (stumps) India have given themselves a fine chance of beating Australia on the final day after bowling out their opposition for just 196 on Monday. The tourists, who need just 230 to win, closed on 37-0 at stumps.
The Aussies, usually so secure at their Adelaide fortress, lost their last five wickets for 13 runs.
Ajit Agarkar claimed remarkable figures of 6-41 after Rahul Dravid had hit 233 in India's first innings score of 523 in answer to Australia's 556.
Dravid had begun the day on 199 but he and the tail were only able to muster a further 46 runs from the overnight score of 477-7.
With a 33-run lead, Australia looked in a secure position.
But Agarkar trapped Justin Langer lbw for 10 with an inswinging ball.
The opener's replacement, Ricky Ponting - who scored 242 in the first innings - was caught in the gully by Akash Chopra off the same bowler for a duck.
Matthew Hayden hit just 17 before becoming Ashish Nehra's only victim when he drove straight to extra cover, and suddenly Australia were in trouble at 44-3.
A partnership of 65 between Damien Martyn (38) and Steve Waugh (42) rectified things briefly.
But the pendulum swung again when both fell on the drive to slip catches by Dravid off Sachin Tendulkar.
Next, Adam Gilchrist and Simon Katich came in to add 71 and at 183-5 things looked to be back on an even keel.
Anil Kumble then bowled the hard-hitting Gilchrist behind his legs for 43 (made off just 45 balls) before the tail wilted under Agarkar's final-session assault.
