First Test, Johannesburg, day two (close)
South Africa 561 v West Indies 87-1 Kallis raises his bat after reaching his hundred |
Jacques Kallis became the second South African batsman to score a ton as the hosts took control of the first Test against West Indies. Kallis notched up the 12th century of his Test career as he bludgeoned 158 in South Africa's 561 - their highest total against the West Indies.
Kallis let rip with the bat before being bowled by Mervyn Dillon.
West Indies made a solid start in reply and were 87-1 at the close.
Wavell Hinds was the man out, dismissed for 10 off Andre Nel's bowling.
Daren Ganga played some stylish shots and was 49 not out and Ramnaresh Sarwan had been patient for his unbeaten 20.
Despite South Africa's massive total they did not have it all their own way, losing their last five wickets for 163 runs.
Hinds finished with figures of 3-79 and Fidel Edwards, Dillon and Collymore took two wickets each.

Kallis' 150 came off 277 balls and included 16 fours and one six. He followed on from captain Graeme Smith's 132 on the first day.
Kallis was ably supported by Martin van Jaarsveld but he was out early on on day two, a plumb lbw for 73.
Neil McKenzie soon followed him back into the pavilion, adding just eight to the total.
Mark Boucher and Shaun Pollock had useful cameo appearances with the bat.
But the entertaining 41-run last-wicket partnership between Robin Peterson and Makaya Ntini frustrated West Indies even more.
