Australia will only tour Zimbabwe next year if their safety can be guaranteed. Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young said his country had previously declined to play in Sri Lanka and Pakistan for security reasons and would do the same for Zimbabwe if necessary.
"We won't tour unless we are satisfied security and safety is guaranteed," he said.
Australia are scheduled to play two Tests and three one-day internationals in Zimbabwe in May and June.
They pulled out of a similar trip in April 2002 after the re-election of controversial president Robert Mugabe.
On Sunday, Mugabe pulled the southern African country out of the Commonwealth.
England have announced they will review the situation in Zimbabwe in February before deciding whether to go ahead with their tour in October.
