Speaking the truth in Pakistan cricket is a sin

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif faces disciplinary action for criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a television interview.

Latif is aware he has breached the players' code of conduct after criticising team selection.

"I fail to understand on what grounds the selectors have dropped me from the national team," Latif said in a television interview.

He was not included in a squad for the home series against New Zealand.

Latif, persuaded out of retirement to captain the team after the World Cup, now wishes he had never bothered.

He said: "I was used as a pawn and I regret my decision to accept the captaincy."

Under the PCB rules, players are bound by contract not to make such public statements.

"I accept that I violated the PCB's contract, but I wanted to give a true picture of Pakistani cricket to all the Pakistani public," Latif explained.

Latif also criticised the PCB's chief selector Aamir Sohail in print.

A PCB spokesman said: "Latif has been served a show cause notice for a television interview.

"The PCB disciplinary committee headed by Justice (retired) Amir Alam will hear the case on a date to be announced later."

Latif, who has played 166 one-dayers and 37 Tests for Pakistan, pulled out of the two-match Test series against South Africa last month.

In his first series in charge after the World Cup, he led Pakistan in the quadrangular tournament win in Sharjah

A runners-up spot in a tri-series in Sri Lanka in May followed and then a 2-1 loss in the one-day series in England in June.

After being banned for five one-day matches on claiming an unfair catch in the Multan Test against Bangladesh he resigned as captain.
