Klusener was Player of the Tournament at the 1999 World Cup |
Lance Klusener has been given a chance to revive his international career by the South African selectors. The all-rounder is set to play for a Rest of South Africa XI against domestic champions Western Province in a one-day challenge on 8 December.
Klusener was dropped from the national team in March after playing 48 Tests and 154 one-day internationals.
But he averages 49 with the bat for KwaZulu Natal so far this season, and has also taken 25 wickets.
"It's great to see him back in refreshed and rejuvenated form," said chief selector Omar Henry.
"His experience and explosive talents will be of great value to the Rest of South Africa."
The match is effectively a trial for the home series against West Indies, which includes four Tests to be followed by five one-day internationals.
Klusener and the United Cricket Board (UCBSA) remain at legal loggerheads, however, following his decision to sue them for alleged loss of earnings.

He claims he was verbally promised a contract for the tour to England earlier this year, but ultimately was not selected.
The case was due to be heard by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration earlier this week, but had to be postponed and no new date has yet been fixed.
Klusener's attitude has shown sings of thawing and he wants to meet captain Graame Smith to iron out their past differences.
"I bear no grudges and I would like to explain to him how I think we could still work together for the team's benefit," the 32-year-old said.
