Griffith wants to see a return to the glory years for the Windies

Griffith replaced Wes Hall as Windies cricket chief earlier in the week.

"By June 2005, I would wish to have the team consolidate its position among the three top-ranked countries in both Test and one-day international cricket," Griffith said.

The Windies are currently ranked eighth in Test cricket and fifth in ODIs.

"It is clear to us that despite signs of emergence over the past few years as a competitive force in world cricket, the performance of the West Indies senior team has been inconsistent and spotty," Griffith said.

"During the next 12 months the senior team needs to use the opportunity of a very challenging schedule of international tours to cement and procure consistent winning habits and performances."

He expressed concerns at the projected state of WICB finances over the next two years, but hopes that the 2007 World Cup, which will be staged in the Caribbean, can generate significant funds.

However, he acknowledged the "extremely challenging" task of having all the grounds ready in time for the tournament.

"I would wish by June 2005 to know that we have achieved, a minimum 60% state of readiness for hosting of the CWC 2007 at all selected venues," he said.

"To be frank, I believe that many of our competitors do not believe that we can rise to the challenge."
