Rain dampens Lancs bid
County Championship D1, Old Trafford: Warwickshire 255 and 211-4 drew with Lancashire 575-6 dec.
Lancashire 12 points, Warwickshire 7.75 points

Lancashire kept their unbeaten County Championship record intact but were unlucky not to beat Warwickshire at Old Trafford.

After forcing Warwickshire to follow-on, Lancashire had reduced the visitors to 211-4 when the rain put paid to any hopes of a victory.

The title-chasing Lancastrians, frustrated by the rain on Friday, bowled out the visitors for 255, a total which left them still trailing by 320 runs.

Dougie Brown top-scored with an unbeaten 52 but Waqar Younis went for 22 and Alan Richardson four.

Warwickshire made a much better fight of it second time around with Nick Knight making 56 and Mark Wagh an unbeaten 76 before the rain arrived in Manchester.

Warwickshire were later deducted 0.25 points due to a slow over rate.

Lancashire: A J Swann, I J Sutcliffe, M B Loye, S G Law, M J Chilton, C L Hooper, G Chapple, W K Hegg (Capt, Wkt), P J Martin, J Wood, G Keedy.

Warwickshire: N V Knight, M J Powell (Capt), M A Wagh, I R Bell, J O Troughton, T Frost (Wkt), D R Brown, N M K Smith, N M Carter, A Richardson, Waqar Younis.
