Lancashire stay in the game
County Championship D1, Edgbaston, day two (close): Warwickshire 449 v Lancashire 278-4

Mark Chilton and Mal Loye kept Lancashire's head above water with centuries at Edgbaston.

Replying to Warwickshire's impressive total, Chilton and Loye put on 222 runs for the second wicket after the early loss of Iain Sutcliffe.

Loye fell to Mark Wagh for 102, hitting 10 fours and two sixes and facing 202 deliveries.

But 264-2 became 266-4 when Gary Keedy became Wagh's second victim and Chilton was bowled by Alan Richardson for 121, a knock which boasted 20 boundaries.

Earlier, Dougie Brown, forced to retire hurt late on day one, returned to the middle to make an unbeaten 140 as the Bears added 107 runs to their overnight 342-6.

Brown received great support from tailender Melvyn Betts, who hit 73 off 103 balls, his highest score in first-class cricket.
