Marsh sees the job as an extension of his current role |
Rod Marsh has replaced Nasser Hussain on the four-man panel which selects England teams. Test captain Hussain stepped down as a national selector to allow someone who watches more county cricket to take his place.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Marsh's appointment on Tuesday, at the same time Michael Vaughan was confirmed as England's new one-day captain.
The ECB said captains would no longer sit on the panel as it would be difficult to have different captains sitting in on selection at different times.
Marsh, ECB National Academy director, joins David Graveney, Duncan Fletcher and Geoff Miller.
There is plenty of talent within county cricket and I see my job as helping to spot and develop those players |
He said: "This is a natural extension of current role as Academy Director and I'm looking forward to it.
"There is plenty of talent within county cricket and I see my job as helping to spot and develop those players who have the potential to take the step up into international cricket."
Marsh already has to watch county cricket regularly to decide on his Academy intake for the following winter.
