Arnold has scored more than 2,800 runs in one-day internationals |
Sri Lanka have dropped experienced batsman Russel Arnold from their one-day squad for the forthcoming tour to the West Indies. Arnold has been replaced by Naveed Nawaz, who made the last of his three appearances so far against India last year.
"Russel has been struggling for his form and we decided it was best for him to regain it before returning to the national side. Naveed has been batting well," said chief selector Lalith Kaluperuma.
The only other change sees uncapped Dinusha Fernando called up in place of all-rounder Kaushalya Weeratne.
The selectors have resisted wholesale changes despite the team failing to reach the final in the recent home series against Pakistan and New Zealand, with Marvan Atapattu retained as captain.
"You can't judge a man on one series alone. It was the batting that lost us the trophy. The top order just needs to regain its form," Kaluperuma added.
All three teams won two of their four games during the round robin phase of the triangular competition, but Sri Lanka were edged out by their failure to earn a single bonus point.
It ended a proud record of having won every home one-day series since 1998.
They will play three one-day games in the Caribbean, two in Barbados and one in St Vincent, prior to two Test matches.
Sri Lanka have beaten West Indies in their last three one-day meetings, the most recent by six runs at Cape Town in February during the World Cup.
