Mendis set to continue
Duleep Mendis

Duleep Mendis could remain as temporary coach of Sri Lanka while the board continues to seek a permanent replacement for Dav Whatmore.

Mendis was put in charge for the two home Tests against New Zealand - the series was drawn 0-0 - and the ongoing triangular series involving the Kiwis and Pakistan.

And a spokeswoman from the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) said Mendis "as far as she knew" would be in charge for the short tour in June to the West Indies.

On Friday, Steve Rixon, initially placed on a shortlist of three for the permanent job following the sacking of Dav Whatmore, signed a fresh contract as coach for New South Wales.

Rixon had indicated as early as mid-April that the provincial Australian outfit appealed more than the Sri Lanka job.

John Bracewell and Graeme Ford, meanwhile, confirmed they were informally approached but both said they did not wish to commit to further negotiations.

The BCCSL was reportedly negotiating with former Australia captain Greg Chappell but abandoned talks after the Sri Lankan governement announced the dates for the elections.

Whatmore, meanwhile, begins his new role as Bangladesh's coach on 1 June.
