Claire Taylor "felt comfortable and confident throughout" |
They are 17 runs in front with six wickets in hand after finishing day two on 151 for four in reply to Australia's first-innings 134. Play only resumed at 2pm local time following heavy overnight rain and further showers in the morning.
Kathryn Leng and Charlotte Edwards then added 28 runs before Leng was run out chasing a tight single for 21.
England tumbled from 48 for one to 70 for four, Edwards trapped lbw for 40 while Arran Thompson became leg-spinner Kris Britt's first international wicket.
The new pairing of Lydia Greenway (31) and Claire Taylor (45) took England to 151 for four with an unbeaten partnership of 81.
"I enjoy facing Australia as it's such a huge challenge. There was a clear job to do today and I felt comfortable and confident throughout," said Taylor.
"Batting with Lydia posed problems particularly as we are a left-right hand combination. We both played well, and we're looking forward to going out there again in the morning.
"We can really enjoy it, there's a lot of good batters to come in our team and we'll be looking to get as big a lead as possible."
On Saturday, England bowler Lucy Pearson returned career-best figures of seven for 51 to dominate the Australia batters.
