Just a single wicket fell on day two in Potchefstroom, as the hosts reached 414 for two - a first innings lead of 199. Kirsten, who hit 150 in the first match of the series, was unbeaten on 154 after six hours at the crease, extending to 16 his national record total of centuries. His 219-ball innings included his seventh six in 85 Tests for his country.
Kallis appeared fortunate to remain at the crease after he edged off-spinner Sanwar Hossain behind shortly before tea, with just 36 runs to his name. But umpire Russell Tiffin ruled against the appeals of Bangladesh captain and wicket-keeper Khaled Mashud. Having taken 103 deliveries about his half-century, Kallis took just 65 more balls about the second half of his 10th Test ton, with 13 boundaries in total.
Shortly after lunch, Gibbs was run out after a magnificent direct throw by Tapash Baisya at mid-off. The opener, whose 114 included 17 fours and two sixes, was easily in his crease but failed to ground his bat. Batting as a second wicket partnership for the first time in their 55th Test together, he and Kirsten put on 141.
