The youthful squad will feature eight 17-year old players when they depart on 31 December. The join the senior England team, the National Academy and the England Women's side on trips Down Under this winter.
Six of the players come from Yorkshire, including the youngest member of the squad, leg-spinner Mark Lawson. Lawson has been coached by Shane Warne's mentor Terry Jenner as part of a programme to develop top-class wrist-spinners. "We have four under-19s and 11 under-18s," said coach Paul Farbrace. "So the majority of the players will be available to play against South Africa next summer and also in the next ICC Under 19 World Cup in 2004. "Seven players have played first-class cricket, so we will have valuable experience in the team too." Three of this year's under-19 side - Kyle Hogg, Gordon Muchall and Graham Wagg - were on Tuesday named in the new intake for the England Academy.
