Door not shut on Waughs
Steve and Mark celebrate Australia's NatWest Series win in England in 2001
The Waughs want another crack at the World Cup
Australian selector Allan Border has hinted that Steve and Mark Waugh still have every chance to making the squad for next year's World Cup in South Africa.

The brothers, now aged 37, were dropped from the one-day squad earlier this year following Ricky Ponting's appointment as captain.

But former captain Border indicated that form, rather than age, would determine whether they could regain their places.

"Whoever's playing first-class cricket, they're in the hunt.

"They're very determined blokes, aren't they, so anything can happen," he said.

Mark Waugh is Australia's leading scorer in one-day internationals, with 8,500 runs in 244 matches, including 18 centuries, and has also held 173 catches.

Steve has made 325 one-day appearances, 106 of them as captain, and led Australia to victory in the 1999 World Cup final.

His record is also impressive, with 7,569 runs at an average of 32.90, 195 wickets and 111 catches.

Charity

Botham's charity walks have inspired Border's marathon
Border hopes Botham will cover a few miles with him

Border, meanwhile, may not be involved in picking the Australian team for the first Ashes Test against England, which starts in Brisbane on 7 November.

He is to walk from Sydney Cricket Ground to The Gabba in Brisbane to raise money for sick and disadvantaged children.

"They're happy to cover my requirements as far as watching games leading up to the first Test. Whether I get involved in the whole selection process, I'm not 100 per cent sure yet," he said.

Border will leave Sydney on 8 October for the 1,000 kilometre (620 mile) walk, and expects to arrive in Brisbane during the Test.

He will be emulating former England all-rounder Ian Botham, who has undertaken a series of successful charity walks, the most recent raising 850,000 towards a children's hopsital in Wales.

"With the Poms being in Australia and maybe with Beefy coming along and helping out in some way shape or form, it's finally being brought to fruition. Certainly Botham has been the inspiration," Border added.

Cricket World Cup 2003 begins on 8 February in South Africa
