Quick-fire wrestling gold for England

England's Myroslav Dykun has won the men's 66kg Greco-Roman wrestling gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

It took the Ukrainian-born Dykun just 40 seconds, grasping Canadian Jack Bond and pinning him to the mat for the required second to win by a fall.

Dykun had already caused the biggest shock of the tournament so far by beating local favourite Sunil Kumar.

The 55kg category was won by India's Rajender Kumar, who beat Azhar Hussain of Pakistan in the final.

Kumar successfully defended his title without conceding a single point in the tournament, winning the final 11-0.

For Dykun, who moved to England seven years ago from Ukraine and has two British championships to his name, it was more than ample justification for his decision to switch from freestyle earlier this year.

"I feel great," he said. "I knew I had a chance here because I had such a good training camp in Russia before coming out.

"Everything has gone so well. Now I can look forward to London 2012."

England team manager Shaun Morley added: "We know he is a world-class athlete and he performed above and beyond expectations today."

Kumar registered his emphatic final victory despite a blow to the face and criticised Hussain's aggressive tactics after their match.

"Personally I was never trained by my guru to play foul," he said.

"My bleeding nose was a problem but I managed to deal with it."

Hussain was less than apologetic after a defeat which brought up India's fourth wrestling gold of the Games so far.

"There's nothing special about him. He is just a Greco-Roman wrestler," he said.
