Madeline Perry suffered a crushing 3-2 defeat in the quarter-finals of the squash event at the Commonwealth Games.

The Banbridge woman comfortably won the opening two games, 11-5, 11-6, but lost the final three to robust Australian Kasey Brown, 11-13, 9-11, 10-12.

Perry saved two match points before losing in the fifth set in Delhi.

The number four seed had defeated Sri Lanka's Sharya Guruge 11-3 11-7 11-5 and then eased past Australia's Lisa Camilleri 11-4 11-4 11-5 on Tuesday.

Zoe Barr was beaten 3-0 by Sharon Wee in the plate quarter-finals in squash.

NI boxer Mark O'Hara beat Angus Donaldson of New Zealand 6-0 while Paddy Gallagher defeated his Cameroon opponent Joseph Mulema 3-0.

Heather Wilson was fifth on 22 points in the 100-lap, 10 -sprint women's points cycling discipline on Wednesday.

In the men's points race Martyn Irvine finished seventh while Philip Lavery was 17th.

The men's pursuit team was third in qualifying for Thursday's final, where they are challenging for the bronze medal.

NI's men's triples bowls team beat Kenya 2-0 in the Group B fourth round before losing to Guernsey.

The ladies triples beat favourites Australia 8-8, 11-5 but the ladies pairs were beaten by Botswana.

Luke Carson was impressive throughout the gymnastics competition, gaining a personal best in the Parallel Bars.

However he made a slight error in the Pommel House and fell a few places to finish in 15th place with 78.20 points.

In the girls all-round final Seriena Johnrose finished 14th with 48.10 points while Charlotte McKenna was 24th.

Swimmer Bethany Carson failed to reach the women's 100m Butterfly final after finishing seventh in her semi-final, but she set a personal best of 1.03.13 minutes.

Laurence McGivern was seventh in the Paralympic 50m S9 swimming event in a time of 28.95 - he set a personal best of 28.84 in the heats.

Northern Ireland were seventh in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

On the first day of action in athletics, Amy Foster advanced from the first round of the women's 100 metres.

Foster finished third in her heat in 11.76 which left her behind Natasha Mayers of St Vincent (11.33) and Cypriot Eleni Artymata (11.44).

"I didn't get a great start but I finished strongly and I am happy to be through to the semi-finals so the focus is on it now on Thursday night," said Foster.

In the women's 400 metres, Joanna Mills was fourth in her heat to qualify in 55.46 seconds.

Jo Patterson finished sixth in heat three in 55.72 and was eliminated, along with her compatriot Katie Kirk.

In the men's archery Recurve round of 16, Northern Ireland lost 216 to 213 to Cyprus.

The Compound team went down 232-224 to England at the quarter-final stage.

Mark Montgomery, who carried the flag for NI in the opening ceremony, was fifth in the Greco-Roman wrestling.

Shooter Robert Doak finished 13th in the singles 50m pistol qualifying.
