Robertson and Emms claimed the silver medal at the Athens Olympics |
Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms are confident of beating old rivals Daniel Shirley and Sara Runesten-Petersen in Sunday's badminton mixed doubles final. The English duo, ranked number one in the world, are hot favourites to win Commonwealth gold against New Zealand.
And Robertson told BBC Sport: "We've not lost to them yet and I expect that to stay the same on Sunday.
"We backed ourselves to beat the Singapore pair and we'll back ourselves to overcome the Kiwis."
Emms and Robertson had their toughest match of the Games in the semi-finals but came away 19-21 21-14 21-17 winners over Singapore duo Hendri Saputra and Yujia Li.
Their Kiwi opposition, meanwhile, booked their place in the final after edging Malaysia's Kien Keat Koo and Pei Tty Wong 15-21 21-14 21-15.
"In the latter stages of our match we noticed the Kiwi pair had won - you can't be unaware of that when they're on the next court," Robertson said.
"But it didn't really bother me who we met in the final.
"They've got a big support base and there's a good atmosphere going on around them when they play.

"But I love a great atmosphere when we're playing, whether they're cheering or jeering you."
Emms said she was determined to make amends for their failure to win a medal in Manchester four years ago - she and Robertson bowed out of the quarter-final stages.
But she insisted there was no guarantee of gold against "one of the trickier pairs in the world".
"They're no slouches - they're in the world's top 10," she said.
"But as the world number one team we're the favourites.
"If we play the way we know we can, we should win. We know we're a better pair."
