Scottish men win pairs bowls gold
Alex Marshall and Paul Foster
Marshall and Foster had to wait while insects delayed the start
Scotland's Alex Marshall and Paul Foster won gold in the pairs bowls after a tense tie-break victory over English duo Mark Bantock and Ian Bond.

Scotland's tenth gold success of the Games came after a 11-6, 2-12, 2-0 win.

But Scots Joyce Lindores and Kay Moran had to settle for silver in the pairs bowls as they were beaten by Lynsey Armitage and Karen Murphy of Australia.

Lindores, from Selkirk, and Moran, from Glasgow Crookston, were beaten 11-7 14-3 in a fantastic match.

The men's final was delayed by an invasion of insects that had to be removed by vacuum cleaners before the match continued.

And when the action resumed, Marshall, who won gold in the same event in Manchester four years ago, prevailed again, with the help of Foster, who is ranked fifth in the world.

Scotland now has the highest number of gold medals in the country's Commonwealth Games history - the previous best was eight, in Brisbane in 1982.
