Badminton setback strikes Vaughan
Richard Vaughan
Vaughan is determined to play in the mixed doubles
Wales' injury-plagued badminton star Richard Vaughan was forced to retire from his first-round match with Hendra Wijaya of Singapore.

"I strained my ankle, but it's not too serious and I'll play in the mixed doubles with Kelly Morgan," he said.

Team-mates Matthew Hughes and Martyn Lewis also went out in the first round, but Jonathan Morgan is through.

Morgan came from behind for a 19-21, 21-17, 21-11 win over Sri Lanka's Renu Hettiarachchige in the women's singles.
