David Roberts added to Wales' medal haul in Melbourne with bronze in the 100m EAD freestyle. He was beaten by Australia's Matthew Cowdrey and Canada's Benoit Huot.
"It's a long way from home, my parents and girlfriend are watching on the television so that performance was for them," said Roberts.
Wales' hopes of a pool gold were lifted when David Davies was the fastest qualifier by a full 13 seconds in the heats for the men's 1500m freestyle.
The City of Cardiff swimmer is a strong favourite for Tuesday's final.
