McIlroy to double up in Melbourne
James McIlroy
James McIlroy will run the 800m semi-finals on Wednesday
Northern Ireland medal hope James McIlroy will run in both the 800 metres and 1500m at the Commonwealth Games.

The decision to confine the 800m to two rounds starting with Wednesday's semi-finals helped to make up McIlroy's mind to double up in Melbourne.

McIlroy will expect to be involved in Thursday's 800m final before tackling the 1500m heats on Friday.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland's Brendan McConville is a doubt for Monday's decathlon because of an ankle injury.

McConville sustained ligament damage in training on Saturday and is struggling to be fit for the two-day event.
