Fava plays for Western Force in the Super 14

The 30-year-old began to convulse after a sickening collision, but doctors say he has escaped serious injury.

Fava spent the night in hospital and said: "I feel quite good. I don't have a headache or any symptoms.

"The neurosurgeons have been in about five times. Everything was fine so they gave me the full bill of health."

He added: "They checked out my reflexes, my eye movements, just that kind of stuff. It's all cleared up."

But Fava, whose collapse brought an eerie silence to the Telstra Dome, admitted he remembers nothing about the incident.

The forward clashed heads when tackling a Fiji player and the bronze-medal match, which Australia lost 24-17, was stopped as he received lengthy treatment before being carried off in a neck brace.

After leaving the Royal Melbourne Hospital he said: "I woke up this morning and had no recollection. I remember running out against Fiji and tackling some Fijians, and that was about it.

"I've been told what happened and most people's description was they've never known the Telstra Dome so silent.

"The two things I asked my wife (when I woke) was did we win and did the Western Force win? There were two negatives there that made me pretty disappointed."
