Tait could get the chance to add to his solitary full England cap |
England sevens coach Mike Friday has tipped a raft of his Commonwealth silver medallists to be key members of Andy Robinson's World Cup squad. The English were beaten to gold 29-21 on Thursday by New Zealand.
"Mathew Tait's emergence has been awesome and there's been a lot of talk about Tom Varndell," he told BBC Sport.
"But David Seymour and Magnus Lund have also been world-class. I expect those guys to be key figures come the World Cup and for a long time to come."
Tait has just one England senior cap, picked up against Wales in last season's Six Nations opener before he was axed by Robinson.
But Friday admitted he would be in close contact with the England national boss after the team's silver.
"I'm always in close conversations with Andy concerning the development of all these guys," he said.
"We've got a young side and I'm confident all of them will be get better but it's all about timing and making sure Andy and I get their development right."
Friday's sentiments were echoed by England sevens captain Simon Amor.
The Gloucester half-back said he expected the majority of the team's young squad to "comfortably" book their place to next year's World Cup in France.
"These guys are supremely talented - they're a fantastic bunch of athletes," he said.
"A lot of people say it's not always possible to transfer sevens skills to the 15-a-side game, but these guys have already more than proved they can do that."
