Willstrop is ranked five in the world |
Four English players and a Scot are into the last eight of the Commonwealth men's singles squash tournament. Number two seed James Willstrop had a bye in the first round and a walkover in the second before thrashing Welsh rival Gavin Jones 9-0 9-7 9-1.
He now faces doubles partner Nick Matthew in the last eight. Lee Beachill and Peter Nicol are also through.
Scottish sixth seed John White also progressed after a 9-6 9-0 9-2 win over Joe Kneipp of Australia.
World number five Willstrop took just 33 minutes to dispatch Jones in his first competitive match for a fortnight.
"I was itching to get started and I really needed a game. That was the perfect match for me, it got a bit scrappy in the second set but it was decent work-out," he said.
Willstrop said he fancied his chances against Matthew and wanted to go on and win the whole tournament.
"I'm here for gold - no other medal," he said. "This is the biggest tournament in the calendar for a squash player.
"I'm ranked a bit higher than Nick but he beat me in our last match.
"We know each others' games inside out and I've played him four times in the last few months."
In the women's singles second round, England's Vicky Botwright, Linda Elriani and Tania Bailey all won through.
Elriani beat Tegwen Malik of Wales 9-6 10-8 9-3, Botwright defeated team-mate Tenille Swartz 9-4 9-7 9-7, and Bailey saw off Australia's Amelia Pittock 9-2 9-2 9-1.
