South African Natalie du Toit set two world records on her way to retaining her 50m freestyle multi-disability title at the Commonwealth Games. Du Toit, who carried her flag at the opening ceremony, triumphed in a time of 29.27 seconds.
It beat her S9 world record mark of 29.32 seconds which she set in the morning heats.
Canada's Anne Polinario was second with Australia's Annabelle Williams third while Wales' Rhiannon Henry was eighth.
Coming into the Games, du Toit's world record was 29.35 which she set at the Visa Paralympic World Cup in Manchester last May.
She will compete in the heats of the able-bodied 800m freestyle on Saturday before the 100m multi-disability event on Sunday.
