England's Peter Nicol hinted at his impending retirement after making an impressive start to his Commonwealth Games squash campaign. After a bye in the first round, the former world number one took less than 30 minutes to dispose of South African number one Rodney Durbach 9-5 9-1 9-1.
"I want a medal in what will certainly be my last Games," said Nicol, 32.
"I'm not going to be playing for much longer after this so I'll enjoy every minute of competing in Melbourne."
The fourth seed is bidding for his sixth Commonwealth Games medal in Australia and said: "I'm feeling in good form and I'm determined to do well."
He competed for Scotland in the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur where he won the gold medal before switching allegiances to England.
