English duo target Melbourne gold
Nathan Roberton and Gail Emms
The duo celebrate in Birmingham but they were beaten in the final
England's Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms have vowed to atone for the 2002 Commonwealth Games by winning mixed doubles badminton gold in Melbourne.

The top seeds were knocked out at the quarter-final stage four years ago and in January saw their All England title go to Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of China.

"The Commonwealths are high on the list after 2002," Robertson said. "That was one of our big disappointments.

"Bit on our day we know we can beat anyone in the world."

Zhang and Gao also eclipsed the British pair in the Athens Olympics, but the tables were turned in the China Open.

Robertson and Emms also captured the Copenhagen Masters and retained their Swiss Open crown.

"The Chinese are so dominant at the moment that to go there and win in their own backyard was very satisfying," Robertson said.

"We have beaten Zhang and Gao twice since Athens and should have won in Birmingham (at the All England Championships)."

Following the Melbourne Games, the Britons will focus on the European Championships in the Netherlands in April, while later that month Emms is due to play for England in the Uber Cup finals.
