Florence made up for a disappointing showing in the single |
Slalom double David Florence and Richard Hounslow won individual and team bronze for Great Britain at the European Championships in Slovakia. They were one of three GB boats who combined to secure the team medal on Saturday, then grabbed the individual canoe double (C2) bronze on Sunday. Scot Florence, Olympic silver medallist in the single, made up for his ninth place in that event earlier on Sunday. "To have turned it around was something I am really proud of," he said. "I'm really really pleased to have won a medal in the C2. "I paddled really well until the last gate in C1 and was gutted to blow it." Despite barely scraping into the final in 10th place, Florence and Hounslow edged out team-mates Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott, the reigning European bronze medallists, for third in the C2 final. Dan Goddard and Colin Radmore were the third crew involved in the team event, in which Great Britain took silver in Nottingham 12 months ago. The 2010 event in Bratislava was postponed in June after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding.
