There had been speculation the world heavyweight champion was going to announce his retirement and he further fuelled the rumours by describing his victory in Memphis as "mission complete". However, when asked if he was contemplating walking away from the ring, Lewis said: "It depends - just throw a punch at me. "I've broken a lot of records and standards and I feel happy about that - now I'm trying to bask in my glory."
Although he refused to be drawn on his future plans Lewis admitted he was not impressed by the standard of potential opponents. "I don't see anybody out there that can beat me - there's nobody out there that can really give me a challenge," he said. Lewis also criticised the referee who took charge of his fight with Tyson. The world champion knocked out Tyson in the eighth round to retain his titles but was docked a point by Eddie Cotton for pushing Tyson to the ground. The champion was also repeatedly warned for holding by Cotton and Lewis was far from happy with the referee's performance. "In the fight it seemed like the referee was against me," he said. "I had a lot of things against me in the fight but I'm glad I overcame that." |
