Paul McCloskey hopes to get a tilt at Amir Khan's title belt |
Dungiven boxer Paul McCloskey could challenge Amir Khan for his WBA world super lightweight title at the MEN Arena in April, BBC Sport understands. McCloskey told the BBC that he has been "looking for this fight for quite a while" and was ready for his chance. "Amir mentioned me as a possible opponent on radio and I think I should be on his radar anyhow," he added. The pair have been communicating on Twitter with Khan stating that he "wants to get it on with McCloskey". The Dungiven fighter is European light welterweight champion and is unbeaten in 22 fights. If negotiations prove successful, the bout is expected to be staged in Manchester in 16 April. Talks between Khan and his first choice opponent, American Lamont Peterson, are understood to have stalled.
