Newport's Gary Buckland won the super-featherweight edition of Prizefighter with a second-round knockout of Derry Matthews at York Hall in London.

The 24-year-old stunned previously undefeated British champion Gary Sykes with a first-round stoppage in the semi-finals on the way to the crown.

"Nobody thought I was going to win this but I had a great build up," he said.

"It's the biggest thing I've ever won as a pro but I don't think it will be my last."

Stoke fighter Scott Lawton lost a unanimous points decision to Sykes at the quarter-final stage.

Lawton, 34, has challenged for British, European and Commonwealth titles but could not cope with Sykes in a one-sided contest.
