Defender John McCombe struck twice to lift Port Vale up to second in League Two as Wycombe Wanderers suffered their first away defeat of the season.
McCombe's first came when he headed home from Marc Richards' pull-back.
But Wycombe equalised as Dave Winfield grabbed his first for the club, heading in from Matt Bloomfield's corner.
Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull produced a fine save to deny Marc Richards, but Vale clinched the points when McCombe's mis-hit shot looped into the net.
Port Vale boss Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "It was a great result and a cracking game. I thought it was a great advertisement for the division.
"I'm pleased that we got the rewards that we deserved because we created numerous chances.
"We've been saying all along that it's about time people started taking responsibility when it comes to scoring goals, so to see a centre half get on the score sheet twice is very pleasing".
