Scotland's Commonwealth boxing gold medallist Callum Johnson will be a world champion within three years, according to his manager, Naseem Hamed.

The light-heavyweight makes his professional debut next month on the undercard of Ricky Burns' title defence against a yet-to-be-chosen opponent.

"Callum is a breath of fresh air. Boxing is dying, there are no characters left in it," said Hamed.

"I want to bring some sparkle back to the game. Callum is something special."

And Hamed, who was known for his flamboyant entrances to the ring and showmanship, added: "I believe he'll be world champ in three years.

"I'm also expecting him to inflict 10 knockouts in his first 10 fights."

Lincolnshire-based Johnson, 25, represented Scotland in the Delhi Games by dint of his having a Scottish grandmother.

Johnson told BBC Scotland: "Naz was my hero when I was growing up. To be managed by him is just great.

"I always wanted to turn professional but was maybe going to wait till after the London 2012 Olympics.

"But I'm 25 now and think the time is right and, when you have the chance to have Frank Warren as promoter and Naz as your manager, it doesn't get much better than that."

Johnson will fight at Braehead Arena before Burns defends his WBO super-featherweight title against Andreas Evensen.
