Johnson hopes to represent Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics |
Lincolnshire boxer Callum Johnson says he can win gold for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Johnson, who is from Benington near Boston, is going to Germany and Spain for extra training ahead of the Games in Delhi in October. He qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents, and is awaiting final confirmation of his place. The 24-year-old told BBC Lincolnshire: "The coach believes I can win the competition and I do too." He added winning the gold would be a huge boost for his profile: "It would change everything. It would almost guarantee my place in the Olympic team for London 2012. "The Olympics are the pinnacle and with it being in London I'd love to represent Great Britain and win a medal." Johnson fought for Great Britain last week in a four nations challenge, making the final after taking the bout at short notice.
